Epicerie Cafe and Grocery is located off Hancock and across the street from Fonda San Miguel. It's setup creates an inviting ambiance with both relaxing indoor and outdoor seating. You can pick from a variety of fresh dishes, an assortment of cheeses from the cheese bar and delicious bakery treats.
If you're feeling up for a sweet treat, I recommend the sea salt carmel cookie (this might not be the exact name--just ask for the most popular!). It won't disappoint!
South Austin has numerous fun eateries, coffee shops and stores. I needed to find a great place for a long day of studying that wouldn't allow me to get too distracted, offered great coffee and a comfortable environment for 6+ hours of studying. Once Over Coffee off South 1st has amazing coffee....definition of amazing coffee: when you can drink it black! So, so good! A cozy environment with good background music. Plus, there's a cute patio off the back surrounded by big trees with lots of greenery strung with lights for the evening crowd. Once Over Coffee perks: bring your own food (several good to-go eateries close by) as long as you buy a drink, $0.25 discount if you want to use your own mug, %10 discount for cash purchases.
I recently moved back to Austin and am thrilled this delicious eatery is within walking distance from where I live. I can tell I will be back. There are so many different menu options that look amazing...even for a vegetarian. The staff is incredibly nice and all go out of their way to strike up a conversation. The truffle fries in the trio are amazing and the Zilker pizza had so much flav! Best of all the patio is pet friendly! Gizmo is going to be stoked :) It was voted recently by the Austin Chronicle as 'Austin's best kept secret!' Their story of the how the name came to be is quite funny and hilarious that numerous people wonder if there is a new breed of terrier in Austin.
Long, long ago a woman by the name of May would climb up the steep ladder into the lighthouse every night and direct the local boats into the harbor. During the winter months it is said that she often wore a long cape to keep her warm at night while she watched for the incoming ships and so the name of this harbor side town came to be --Cape May. Haha. Not really.
Definitely not Jersey Shore. Cape May is a quaint and picturesque town along the coast line of New Jersey about 2 hours south of Philadelphia. The coastal sunsets are breathtaking with old victorian style homes, hydrangeas and butterflies surrounding the nearby streets.
A local favorite....
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10am the hippie bread goddess of Cape May opens her street side stand on Ocean Drive offering amazing wood fired bread, muffins and some local produce. I am not a huge fan of bread but this stuff is amazing! There was a long line and the muffins were completely gone by 10:10am. I was responsible for bringing the bread back to the house since my bike had a bungie cord. Thank heavens I made it back and did not get attacked by the massive seagulls that are exceptionally well fed here. Pretty sure I would have never heard the end of that one considering we arrived on Tuesday and all we've heard about everyday is this amazing local bread from the hippie down the street. Here's a picture of the bread in tow...
The kayaking tour took us through the Ecological Reserve and
provided a lot of fun interesting facts about the area. While we didn’t get to paddle through the 7
sandstone caves because of the strong swells, we got to cruise alongside them
and see the sea lions. They were quite
funny with their barking as they played king of the mountain. One even ‘bitch’ slapped another and then
tossed her bum smack dab on top of the others head! She then proceeded to get situated while
keeping half her body on top of the other sea lion…How Rude. These creatures carry quite the horrendous
smell especially the males. The males
have a hard knot on their skull for fighting since they will battle it out for
the land of women….more or less male sea lions are pimps. Another interesting fact is the sea lions has
whiskers which act as feelers much like our fingers. When you see them balance a ball it never
touches their nose. It is actually held
up by their whiskers.

goldfish. It is a hermaphrodite. The fish starts out as a female, takes up
shop in a portion of the ocean where it is uninhabited by males and proceeds to
eat up the green string looking seaweed which gives it the energy to morph into
a male. This fish can change sex twice
in it’s lifetime. As our guide stated, “This
quite fitting since California has a high rate of sex change procedures every
year.“

over looking the beach yet they offer both inland and beach camp sites.
The beach campsites are beautiful views with a rather deceiving name
because the site equates to looking through a fence 50 yards down at the beach.
Overall these campgrounds were good and conveniently located near the beach,
close by shops and about 25 minutes from San Diego.
Santa Fe Railroad Station. There’s
always a line out the door at this place but not to worry it doesn’t take
long. The waitresses approach you while
you’re waiting in line and take your order before you reach the checkout station. We went here for breakfast Saturday morning
and had to return Sunday to try the carrot cake. We tried the juevos rancheros, the greek
eggs, pecan bar and carrot cake. The greek eggs were steam scrambled eggs with
basil, feta and tomato….yummy! All the egg dishes were steam scrambled which I
was not familiar with but thoroughly enjoyed.
The steam made them very light and fluffy. The coffee was incredible and so was the Blue

place if you’re ever in the Leucadia/Encinitas area.

I had never seen a date tree nor did I realize tgey existed in Arizona. The branches of dates were super heavy. Close by was a date everything store...literally. We had date ice cream which was deliscious. There were numerous types and yes, I tried them all.the house of newhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08869181822601475409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2692656616949935899.post-74548689135833934042012-04-13T21:40:00.000-05:002012-07-05T21:43:15.477-05:00Hotel CongressAn old historic site in Tucson with lots of character that's sure to bring a good experience no matter what time of day. The Cup Cafe inside the hotel serves a mouth watering brunch (& it's full of vegan options). The patio offers a great place to grab a drink and $5 munchies for a low key evening with friends. Several nights a week you can catch various musicians taking the hotel's theater stage and Tuesday night is trivia. the house of newhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08869181822601475409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2692656616949935899.post-75959597797754960842012-03-12T19:32:00.000-05:002012-07-05T19:39:35.645-05:00Red RocksSedona, AZ-- Surrounded breathtaking views of rusty, red mountains. This place is a must see!
The Airport loop hiking trail offers great views and gives a complete 360 tour of Sedona.
Fay's canyon hiking trail allows you to venture into the red mountains but don't stop once you reach the 'trail end' sign. The best is yet to come! Keep hiking up through the large rocks towards the giant overhang. The views will not disappoint.
The Chapel on the Rocks.
This tiny catholic church has spectacular views from the inside and out.
Random info--The large red mansion you pass on the way in is owned by the man who created the laser for Lasix. It was valued at 29mm in 2010.
Here's a few other trails I hope to checkout sometime this summer: Devil's Bridge, Schnebley road and the slide rocks.the house of newhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08869181822601475409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2692656616949935899.post-39130043533663916162012-01-16T13:39:00.018-06:002012-01-16T14:09:53.565-06:00Union Public House

This is Tucson's newest gastropub and is located in the St. Philip's Plaza. So glad a place like this moved into the area....only a short walk away:) It's great for lunch, dinner or their extremely popular 'social hour.' I've been for lunch and social hour a few times. The tomato soup is outstanding! On the 'social hour' menu, the mac n' cheese is super creamy and filling and people seem to love the burger. There are numerous things to do here from camping, horseback riding, hiking and cave tours.

These pictures are from the regular cave tour. They also offer one called the 'ladder tour' that allows you to take on a real cave adventure as you go crawling on your hand and knees through tiny paths, rock climb through portions and use rope ladders to hoist yourself through the cavern. After seeing some of the tiny holes I can't decide if I think it would be a blast or a claustrophobic mess. Colossal is considered a dry cave and therefore, doesn't have the shiny wet appearance on the rocks inside the cave. Due to the dry appearance, some of the formations within the cave appeared fake although, they were the real deal.
This place had incredible views--definitely the best we saw all day despite the 3 chosen wines for wine lover trail tasting. I really don't understand why some vineyards choose their least favored wines or choose the 3 selections. People have such different palates and while some prefer sweet others prefer dry. I think most people would agree they enjoyed the wineries giving them an array of options and actually providing the opportunity to purchase a bottle. Needless to say we weren't very impressed with the sweet wine tasting at this vineyard but that's not to say their drier wines aren't good. We didn't have the opportunity to try those.
As you drive up along the dirt road you're greeted by moos of the numerously playful black cows in the pens by the parking spots. Don't be alarmed by the moos as we thought it was a small child yelling! There was a polka at this one but more impressive was their outdoor setup for actual wine goers. We got the shaft a bit being on the tour and were sectioned off to an outdoor tent for our tastings. The Riesling here was great and surprisingly, not too sweet!
We really enjoyed several of the reds made here:
1. Cabernet 2007: not as strong as what you typically think of when you hear cab but still exceptionally good.
2. Tempranillo: Winner! Their top seller for a reason as noted at first sip. It's full bodied and balanced with black cherries, coffee and a mineral finish.
3. The Family Reserve: heavily based with a merlot with portions of tempranillo, cabernet and sangiovese. This red was good but not worth $50/per bottle. The tempranillo out performed this one by a long shot in my book.
Majority of the schools were closed as well as many roads. First thought that came to our minds was Murchison Hill! A school close by with an awesome hill leading onto the track. We layered up, 'borrowed' a plastic pool from Sally's neighbors, grabbed a few cardboard boxes, a trashcan lid and we were off to sled the morning away with many others. People got really creative! This first pic is of a family who brought a surf board! We saw people on cookie sheets, in laundry baskets, a kayak, boogie boards and a nice bronze circular tray(this kid's mom probably doesn't realize her dining room centerpiece is missing just yet!). It was a really fun morning and I'm sad the snow has melted but thank you mother nature for the day off:)
They’re actually the shell of a berry grown in the Himalayas and produce saponins (the ingredient which actually makes all the grime and stains release from our clothes). These berries provide an organic way to wash your clothes without all the other harmful chemicals. I recently purchased a sample bag of these and was pleasantly surprised! In Texas we have to make an effort to feel like it's the Christmas season especially since the weather can often still be in the 70s. Let me just say Austin does it up right! I've always seen the trees along Capitol of Texas highway decorated but I've never participated until this year. It was super fun and there were tons of people out decorating Saturday. As my friend, Paige, stated, "I was beginning to think elves decorated these trees because you never see anyone hanging the ornaments!" This is typically true and as you drive you wonder....who did all this? But we were in luck and definitely could tell we were virgins to this awesome Austin tradition. There were people with ladders and car loads of decor! Next year we will be prepared.
At the end of September my mom and I decided to make a long talked about vacation (5 years!) a reality. We planned a 16 day, later 15 day excursion to Italy.
My dad took us to the airport on the 3rd and we were suppose to be off by noon. Unfortunately after a malfunctioning part and several hours of sitting aboard the plane it was canceled:( which crumbled into one of the most downward spirals...not to worry we laugh now:) So we missed our connector flights, specifically our Italian airline flight, and had to take the train to Santa Margherita from Rome. Most of you are thinking that's not too bad well let me preempt you with... my mom and I are the worst navigators ever! So this was not good. Plus, my mom's luggage didn't make it! This is why carry ons are the way to go:) We finally get our train tickets, make it to the first train change successfully but end up on the wrong train thereafter, and headed almost all the way to France! By this time the stations are closing and the polizia(police) direct us to take the next train back to the Pisa station for safety measures. Off to Pisa! Apparently we were suppose to purchase another ticket so the conductor made us stand in the galloway by the bathrooms and doors opening onto the tracks!...he was not very happy with the dumb Americans. Oops:) At Pisa, we had to spend the night at the train station on a bench with the homeless people in 38 degree weather. 3 hours later our much anticipated train arrived for our final stretch to Santa Margherita.
It's definitely no longer out of the norm or original, but never the less still fun to check out. After walking around first Thursday's on SoCo, grabbing a drink at Guerro's and doing a little shopping we decided to try out <p:onmouseclick href="http://www.crepesmille.com/" hyperlinktype="url">Crepes Mille</p:onmouseclick> , the crepe trailer. Yes, you read correctly. Austin has its very own peacock plantation better known as Mayfield Park which butts right up to Laguna Gloria. This little hidden gem was rather entertaining. These peacocks were roaming about everywhere - in the trees, on the roof tops and one even flew away from us.....I can't imagine why this bird thought our iphone cameras were so startling! Actually we're really lucky they didn't peck our intrusive camera hands! The male peacocks were so pulchritudinous (physically beautiful - I figure its better to reference him this way as opposed to calling the man bird pretty!) stealing all the camera light while the unattractive females moped around stuffing their beaks.
